I recently completed my PhD in Biological Sciences at Louisiana State University, where I studied the neurobiological mechanisms of personality in wild songbirds. I am currently a postdoc at UC Davis, where I am investigating the mechanisms underlying cognition in bumblebees. I am broadly interested in understanding how ecological, neurobiological, and physiological systems can influence behavioral plasticity in individuals, populations, and species.
I presented a queen vs worker olfactory learning and sensitivity project at ABS in Baltimore (my hometown!)
June 2025
My queens started laying eggs and building honeypots in their nest boxes!
June 2025
We started fieldwork for postdoc Sarah Waybright's wild bumblebee queens and workers project at Sagehen field station.
May 2025
I received the Distinguished Dissertation Award from the College of Science and was runner-up for the Distinguished Dissertation Award for the LSU Alumni Association.
May 2025
I saw lots of Bombus vosnesenskii workers during a trip to San Francisco!
May 2025
I gave a virtual talk on birds and bumblebees at Pittsburgh State University
April 2025
Superstar undergrad Jordan Fecundo presented at the UC Davis undergraduate research symposium.
April 2025
I collected Bombus melanopygus nests for a queen life stage project from people's yards!
March 2025
I searched for wild bumblebees in some beautiful places along the northern coast of California.
February 2025
I ran the Davis Stampede half-marathon with Fischer Lab postdoc Hannah Justen. Fischer Lab manager Cameron Badger cheered us on!
A collaboration with graduate student Marquise Henry has been published. We found that blocking glucocorticoid receptors with an antagonist did not affect neophobia but did decrease baseline and stress-induced corticosterone.
New publication alert! Research from my undergraduate thesis on dark-eyed juncos has been published. Juncos increase both free fatty acids and glucose during an acute handling challenge and larger individuals mobilized more glucose.
August 2024
I moved to Davis and visited my new field site for wild bumblebee cognition research! This site is in Soda Springs, CA and has lots of wild flowers for bee foraging.
August 2024
New publication alert! House sparrow alarm calls prevented birds from habituating to novel object trials. Click above to read more!
April 2024
My husband and I defended our PhDs in the same week!
New publication alert! Female house sparrows in breeding condition decrease brain responses in response to neutral tones compared to male house sparrow song, but they do NOT decrease brain responses to predator sounds. Click above to read more!
May 2023
I received a P.E.O Scholar Award. Click above to read more!
